Former Springbok fullback Percy Montgomery saved a baby dolphin that had been stranded on the beach in Arniston in the Western Cape over the weekend.
The Boks legend was enjoying a lekker weekend away with radio DJ Ryan O’Connor and Stormers coach John Dobson at Arniston Spa Hotel this weekend to support SA dominating in rugby and UFC, as part of a SA Rugby Magazine promotional event.
It was quite a successful weekend already, with our boys in green and gold lashing the Wallabies in Perth on Saturday and Dricus du Plessis winning the battle against Israel Adesanya on Sunday morning.
But then the old rugby star went and saved a life, to really settle in the fact that Saffas rule.
Following the game, Ryan, Percy and some other mates were driving past Shark Point when they spotted what appeared to be a stranded animal on the beach below, Smile FM reports.
As soon as they realised it was a baby dolphin, they made their way down the cliffs where Percy says his natural instinct kicked in and he picked the dolphin up to push it back into the ocean.
A video shows a fully clothed Montgomery bravely picking up the slippery calf and carrying it safely back into the ocean. Watch the baby get the zoomies once it realised it was safe at home in the waves:

Montgomery said the experience was “incredible”:
“I swam with them in Bermuda, but for me, saving a little baby dolphin was unbelievable. It was such a special moment, coming to Arniston, the Bokke won, and saving a little baby dolphin is just amazing!”
What a moment. Montgomery played 102 Tests for the Springboks between 1997 and 2008. His greatest achievement in Springbok colours was at the 2007 Rugby World Cup where he helped SA lift the Webb Ellis Cup. The Rugga, now 50, remains South Africa’s highest points scorer with 893 points thanks to 25 tries, 153 conversions, 148 penalties and six drop goals.
But this has gotta be Montgomery’s best tackle ever, right?
