Residents of Vinhedo looked on in horror this weekend as an aeroplane literally fell from the sky and crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, killing all 62 people on board.
Footage circulating on social media showed the plane spiralling towards the ground before a massive plume of smoke rose into the sky. The plane landed in a residential area but no one on the ground was injured.
The twin-engine turboprop was flying from Cascavel to Guarulhos airport in São Paulo city when it came down on Friday, Voepass airline says.
Brazil’s civil aviation agency said the plane, which was built in 2010, had been “in good operating condition, with valid registration and airworthiness certificates”. It added that the four crew members on board at the time of the accident were all duly licensed and had valid qualifications.

According to reports, there were eight cancer doctors on the plane travelling to São Paulo to take part in a cancer/vaccine conference called SBTMO 2024. Initially, it was supposed to be 15, but seven doctors changed their flight to an earlier takeoff for that day.
The airline confirmed ten people who were waiting at the wrong boarding gate miraculously missed the flight.
