The new advocate representing convicted killer and rapist Thabo Bester seems to have finally found the elusive limelight.
Ostensibly having run through a list of careers that could put him in the public eye, Lerato Moela settled on the law as the best avenue to stardom, and by attaching himself to a convicted rapist and murderer, he reckons it’s finally his time to shine.
In a Facebook post dated January 14, 2022, Moela revealed that he has always been chasing fame and believed that a career in law would be his golden ticket.
Moela took over Betser’s case after his previous lawyers withdrew due to a ‘lack of financial instructions and difficulties consulting with him’. One of Moela’s first acts as his representative was to get Bester’s incarceration conditions relaxed and change the conditions under which he was ferried to and from prison.Judge Cagney Musi, however, dismissed the application, calling the motion half-baked. Sounds about right.
Calling himself a “legal sangoma working for Dali Mpofu’s law firm” on Facebook, Moela sounds like the attorney that Thabo Bester deserves. The troupe will be heading back to court with supporting cast members Nandipha Magudumana, Senohe Matsoara, Zolile Sekeleni, Teboho Liphoko, Buti Masukela, Tieho Makhotsa, Zanda Moyo, and Joel Makhetha in May next year.
