Talks between Racing 92 and the Sharks seem to move quickly with representatives saying the Springbok captain might return to the South African franchise within days.
After just a season into his three-year contract at Racing 92, Siya is believed to want to come back to Mzansi for personal reasons, with reports saying the back-row and his family reportedly do not want to remain in France but that the exit from Racing is “amicable”.
Siya’s time at Racing did not go as planned after a series of injuries and a ‘lack of form’ resulted in the club’s owner, Jacky Lorenzetti, getting all snotty and saying the 33-year-old Siya “gained weight, lost shape and was transparent” during their recent game against Bordeaux.
Since Lorenzetti’s comments, Kolisi and the owner have had an opportunity to ‘clear the air’ but the outcome of the meeting is not known.
“It was a private conversation between the two of them. Only a handful of people know what was said,” a source told Rapport.
“It is done practically and on good terms based on what is best for all parties. The transfer will be immediate if the talks are successful.”

According to RugbyPass, Racing 92 paid the Sharks R17 million for Kolisi’s services in 2023, but the Durban club will also have to spend millions to lure him back.
It was initially believed that SA Rugby was in negotiations and would pay a portion of the price, but the governing body strongly refuted this on Saturday.
“Media are advised that speculation that SA Rugby is involved in the ‘buy-out’ of the club contract of Siya Kolisi is without any basis in fact.”
“SA Rugby also wishes to make clear that it is not in any way involved in any conversations relating to such an outcome should they, in fact, be taking place.”
“For clarity, when national players return to play in South Africa, they may be added to the category of players of national interest at the discretion of SA Rugby. At such point their union remuneration is supplemented by SA Rugby.”
Beaurocracy and paperwork aside, we’re just glad Siya and his family are coming back home.
