When you’re rich af, the world is your oyster. The entire world unfurls before you like an endless treasure trove, brimming with limitless possibilities and unparalleled opportunities.
Except, perhaps, when it comes to setting up an illegal party on the pristine protected beach on the island of Sardinia.
Italian coastguards descended on the island to break up the secret shindig organised by the crew of a lavish private yacht on Sunday, Daily Mail reports.
In a dramatic turn of events, footage shot by irate seaside bathers captured the moment authorities swooped in to put an abrupt end to the spontaneous party on Talmone Beach in Palau, Sardinia, just under two hours after it had begun.
Be it ignorance or irreverence, the deep-pocketed party people willingly overlooked the strict rules and regulations of the nature reserve, which only permits simple beach activities like walking and swimming. Embarrassingly, a private party was not only against the rules but also something other beachgoers were not going to ignore.
The tension in the air was palpable as the yacht crew commenced preparations for the lavish affair, setting up gazebos, tables, cookers, massive jukeboxes, a volleyball net, and a DJ set.
Talmone Beach, a stunning, secluded cove with azure blue waters, is reachable only by a narrow footpath. Boats must anchor at least 200 metres from the shore to preserve the pristine landscape, and large umbrellas, sun loungers, or chairs are strictly forbidden. To savour the untouched beauty of this beach without disruption or rule violations, visitors are permitted to bring only a simple beach towel.
Meanwhile, several motorboats had launched from an enormous pleasure yacht called “Rock It”, turning Talmone Beach into something resembling a private beach within minutes:
Little did they know, that they would have to pack up and return to Rock It with their tails between their legs as the Sardinian environmental group ‘Amici di Talmone’/ Friends of Talmone’ dedicated to protecting this untouched natural area, had called them out.
The coastguard and Port Authority were alerted, bringing their boats to the shoreline within two hours to bring the party to an abrupt end.
The incident was detailed in a statement on the Facebook page of ‘Amici di Talmone’, which read: “The beach of Talmone has now become an illegal private retreat for the affluent vacationers of the yacht Rock.It.”
“Despite the prohibitions of the bathing ordinance issued by the Region of Sardinia, this blatant disregard for the environment continues.”
They mentioned that fires were lit on the beach, which were only extinguished by the intervention of the Coast Guard, adding that “environmental damage has occurred both on land and at sea”.
“While the summer of misconduct continues, the vigilance of the ‘Friends of Talmone’ remains steadfast.”
Many of Sardinia’s beaches are subject to highly restrictive regulations to prevent overtourism and protect delicate marine ecosystems. As it should be.
Apparently, the billionaire owner of the yacht was not present at the party in Sardinia, suggesting the event was organised by the ship’s crew or by private clients who had chartered the vessel.
Fat chance, Rock It. Move along.
