Thabo Bester might think he’s a cool cat, but he’s got nothing on Mustafa Ali and Omari Mustafa, who reportedly ‘turned into cats’ before escaping custody at a Gauteng holding cell.
The two felons-turned-felines were among 11 others arrested for being in possession of stolen property on July 16, but when police called out their names for a hearing, the men were nowhere to be found.
Things took a weird turn when police questioned the other inmates in the cell, who then claimed Ali and Mustafa made strange ‘owl-like noises’, before transforming into cats and slipping through the bars.
According to IOL, the official who wrote up the original report claimed that when he and another officer went to the cells to count the suspects, the same man who claimed the two men turned into cats, told them the same story.
The police have, however, managed to re-arrest one of the suspects, and despite the hairball story being, like, totally believable, police have confirmed that they are now investigating the police officers who were on duty at the time of the alleged transformation and escape.
Not buying into the bulls**t cat story, Colonel Noxolo Kweza said, “Meyerton police have opened a disciplinary case against members following an escape from lawful custody. This follows an incident where two suspects, who were arrested for possession of hijacked goods, escaped from police custody. The circumstances of the escape will form part of the investigation.”
Common sense prevails as even the police have to admit that it is far more likely that dodgy cops helped the suspects escape than it being a case of therianthropy.
