England supporters were seen fighting amongst themselves last night in and around the stands of Berlin’s Olympiastadion after a devastating defeat by Spain in the European Championship final.
Mikel Oyarzabal’s 86th-minute winning goal not only shattered England’s dreams but also ignited violence both inside the stadium in Germany and on the streets of London.
Shockingly, reports emerged that some England fans began fighting during the first half of the match, even when the game was still goalless. Being a sore loser is one thing, being a kak competitor is another.

Chris Bird, former Manchester City director, expressed his frustration and disappointment via X, calling out the English fans’ appalling behaviour.
“England fans fighting each other in the first half once again showing there is a section of support who don’t deserve finals or these players. Disgusting experience, I will never watch England away ever again.”
Tens of thousands of England supporters made the trip to Berlin for the final, with those unable to make the trip filling up pubs and bars in England to the brim before the 8PM kick-off on Sunday night. The fan data showed that at least 50,000 England fans were in Berlin by the start of the match, and German law enforcement was posted around the city in order to maintain a peaceful and fun championship energy at the capital…
…so they thought.

Before the game, German police issued a stern warning to England fans to avoid repeating the violence that marred the previous European Championship final against Italy in 2021. It’s no surprise that this time ’round, law enforcement measures were taken expertly seriously, considering that three years ago thousands of ticketless fans stormed the European Championship stadium, resulting in some of the worst rioting scenes in English football history.
Considering the mess of the 2021 Euros, England did (relatively) well this year to keep upsets on the down low. Chief Constable Mark Roberts, of Cheshire Police, revealed that there had been a “small number of instances of disorder which has resulted in 66 arrests” during England’s stay in Germany. He added, “These incidents have been swiftly dealt with by the German police with the support of UK officers.”
To England’s credit, there is something strangely ‘classic’ about losing a sports match, klapping some (too many) cold ones and dondering your friend. Us Springbok fans are certainly not immune to this phenomenon.
That being said, considering it’s 2024, someone will probably whip their phone out and record the moment, and you will forever be the doos that threw a drunk punch, like the lads above. So, be cool.
At the end of the day, Spain took the European Championship by storm, sorry not sorry – olé!
