Saturday night was abuzz with stars showing up for Charlize Theron’s fourth annual Block Party benefit for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP).
The party on the Universal Backlot celebrated the upcoming release of Twisters, a natural disaster thriller with stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, along with a few other famous faces in attendance.
The event, aimed at supporting young people in Southern Africa, where Theron was born and raised (in case you forgot), was also graced by notable celebrity attendees including country singers Lainey Wilson, Tanner Adell, and television personality Jeannie Mai, as well as a conversation between Theron and South African activists Neo Mohajane and Miché Williams.
CTAOP, launched by Theron almost two decades ago, invests in and advances the health and safety of young people in South Africa to create a more equitable future for all. CTAOP works with organisations that “engage young people and their communities in multifaceted ways to address the social and structural drivers of health and gender inequality” per the foundation’s website. Theron’s organisation’s approach is to support community-based organisations by providing funding, building community and amplifying their voices – hear that Elon? That’s how you support your homebase as a famous Saffa in America.
“Initially, I really trusted that we were playing in the right box,” the Oscar-winner told Variety.
“It’s obviously evolved over the last 17 years but I always say the why has to be personal otherwise you can’t sustain it. Anybody can do something for five years or six years. But if you want to do something that’s going to mean something to you, and even when it’s hard and it’s painful, then it has to be something that has some sort of personal connection.”
The CTAOP Block Party 2024 was sponsored by Dior, CAA, Breitling, Universal Pictures and Solyco Capital.
Here’s Charlize with Normal People and Twisters star Daisy Edgar-Jones, along with all the other celebs who pitched in to support the noble goals of CTAOP.

This is the second Instagram post from Charlize, who was taking a small sabbatical from social media before announcing her exciting career shift.
In her previous post from last week, the 48-year-old Benoni-born A-lister announced that she is teaming up with dance icons Latrina Bolger-Washington and Tyrell Washington and opening a dance studio – The Six Compound.
Charlize posted a pic with her co-creators, describing the studio as “a place with a fresh perspective to the evolution and future of dance AND performance.”
She’s on a roll and we smaak it.
