Labelled the ‘Papal’s arch enemy’, Archbishop Viganò has been excommunicated from the Vatican after being found guilty of ‘schism’.
The ultra-conservative bishop has been in the Vatican cross-hairs ever since accusing the pope of being a “false prophet” and a “servant of Satan” and alleging that the pope knew for years about sexual misconduct by US Cardinal Theodore McCarrick and doing nothing about it.
The Vatican, however, rejected Viganò’s accusations and summoned the rogue bishop to appear before the church on charges of ‘schism’ and rejecting the pope’s legitimacy.
The Vatican claimed that his public comments made it clear he “refused to recognize and submit” to Pope Francis, adding that Viganò further refused to accept “liberal reforms made by the Roman Catholic Church in the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s”.
“At the conclusion of the penal process, the Most Reverend Carlo Maria Vigano was found guilty of the reserved delict (violation of the law) of schism.”
83-year-old Viganò is, however, not taking his excommunication quietly and has rallied the ‘faithful’ on X, reposting the entire judgement against him on the platform and urging his followers to voice their support for him by quoting the religious rebel OG, Jesus: “If they keep quiet, the stones themselves will start shouting.”
Viganò is very fond of X, and last month tweeted (x’ed?) that he would not be attending the hearing as he does not recognise the authority behind it.
“I do not recognize the authority of the tribunal that claims to judge me, nor of its Prefect, nor of the one who appointed him.”
This is similar to you not recognising the HR manager, line manager, or CEO at your company disciplinary. The results will likely be the same: Get out.
Viganò has been known to only refer to the pope by his first name, Bergoglio, and has accused the church of becoming an “inclusive, immigrationist, eco-sustainable, and gay-friendly” institution that has strayed from “its true message”.
“I repudiate, reject, and condemn the scandals, errors, and heresies of Jorge Mario Bergoglio.”
Viganò sounds as Old Testament as you get.
We learn from the press that next September 14 (on the feast day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross) a homosexual activist couple will be ‘blessed’ in Fano, who have also expressed their wish to adopt a child. Viganò has been a thorn in the church’s side for a number of years. He was appointed secretary general of the Vatican City Governatorate in 2009, where he reformed the finances of Vatican City and turned a budget deficit into a surplus.
He complained directly to Pope Benedict XVI about financial corruption, publishing two of his letters without permission resulting in the so-called Vatican leaks scandal which exposed financial mismanagement and wrongdoing in the Vatican.
Viganò now joins the ranks of Martin Luther and John Wick in excommunion, and like Wick, we likely haven’t heard the last of him.
