J.K. Rowling reckons fans of the books will be thrilled with the planned HBO Harry Potter TV series.
The author’s comments come after HBO announced they have found the creative team entrusted with bringing one of the most iconic and well-known franchises in the world to TV screens.
Succession alums Francesca Gardiner will write and executive produce, and Mark Mylod from Game of Thrones will also serve as executive producer as well as direct several episodes. Rowling will be involved in the show as an executive producer.
Rowling, 58, said that she “interviewed” both Gardiner and Mylod and was “thrilled to announce them as our director and writer. Both have a genuine passion for Harry Potter, and having read Francesca’s pilot script and heard Mark’s vision, I’m certain the TV show will more than live up to expectations,” Rowling shared.
The show has not begun casting yet but will start looking for the ‘core three’ soon, according to Variety.
Daniel Radcliffe, now 34, recently said he “doesn’t think” he’ll appear in the new show. The ‘Boy Who Lived’ starred in the original movies for a decade, from 2001-2011.
“I’m very happy to just watch along with everyone else.”
“I think they very wisely want to have a clean break. And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it.”

James and Oliver Phelps, who played mischievous twins Fred and George Weasley in the movies, weren’t as quick to shut down the possibility of appearing in the show.
“I suppose so. It’s one of those things where it’s never really a chapter closed in your life,” Oliver, 38, told The NY Post.
“Whether we’d appear in the show as our characters, that’s a totally different thing — we’re not quite looking like high schoolers anymore! If it does happen, we only know as much as you do. But, it’s nice that there’s a lot of intrigue around the show.”
Francesca Gardiner, who has also produced episodes for hit shows like Killing Eve and His Dark Materials, believes the series should feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, “full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years”.
“The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved ‘Harry Potter’ book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling.
The show will be brought out by HBO alongside Warner Brothers and has been described as a more faithful adaptation of the books. The network is looking to release the show over the course of a decade, with Warner Brothers CEO David Zaslav saying the first season of the show can be expected as early as 2026.
Stay tuned.
