Cape Town hasn’t escaped the floods that have been wreaking havoc across the country, with some parts inundated by Tuesday morning’s heavy rains, prompting the city to close certain roads for safety.
The SA Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Level 4 warning for Tuesday, prompting the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre (DRMC) staff to declare themselves on high alert on Monday.
For the most part, 10 to 20 millimetres of rain were predicted for Monday and Tuesday.
“Some areas are expected to reach 30mm, including the West Coast District, Cape Winelands, City of Cape Town, and Overberg region,” SAWS forecaster Samkelo Magwala added.
🚨 Flooding has been reported:
1. in the right and centre lane on the N2 outbound before Liesbeeck Park Way. Both lanes are closed.
2. Strand street in and outbound between Nelson Mandela and Buitenkant.#CTInfo pic.twitter.com/nNWgCpJ48u
