Even though Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio have appeared together on the big screen before, fans shouldn’t expect this to happen again.
The two actors are seriously competitive, even more so than ever before, a new report suggests, as they vie for the same roles and directors to forward their own award-winning careers.
“They have zero plans to work together again and see Once Upon A Time … In Hollywood as a one-off. They are back to being quite sharp competitors with each other,” a source told In Touch Weekly, referring to Brad, 60, and Leo, 49.
2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, saw Leo and Brad star as Rick Dalton, a fading television actor, and Cliff Booth, his loyal stunt double, respectively, as they journey through a changing Los Angeles film industry set in 1969. See the poster image up top.
The Quentin Tarantino-directed movie received critical acclaim for its performances, winning two Academy Awards for Best Production Design and Best Supporting Actor, which went to Brad Pitt, much to Leo’s dismay.
Leo has been disappointed a number of times, being Oscar-nominated for his various striking roles in moves but never really winning (bar The Revenant), so Brad getting the nod in the one big film they shoot together must have felt like a slap in the face.
The two Hollywood stars also have their own production companies – merely another avenue to go head to head.
“They’re going after the same scripts and the same directors and there’s a ton of overlap. Plus, their companies are similarly structured, but Brad’s Plan B has seen a massive influx of investment that hasn’t materialized for Leo’s company, Appian Way, just yet,” the source continued.
“He’s working toward that and deserves that kind of windfall, but he hasn’t sealed a deal yet.”
Brad’s Plan B Entertainment, founded in 2001, is primarily focused on producing quality films that challenge conventional narratives and has garnered critical acclaim for its diverse range of projects over the years, including 12 Years a Slave, Moonlight, and The Big Short.
Meanwhile, Leo’s Appian Way Productions, founded in 2004, also aims to produce thought-provoking films that make a meaningful impact on audiences, also involved in the production of successful projects such as The Revenant, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Shutter Island.
Despite their similar successes, the source says Brad continues to hold sway with “big directors” and “has the upper hand” in the industry.
“Yes, Leo can do anything with Scorsese, but how many movies does he have left? And it’s become very clear that Quentin Tarantino prefers to work with Brad over Leo. Quentin and Brad just get along on a different level,” they elaborated.
Tarantino even went so far as to compare Brad to the sparkle of stars once, saying “He’s one of the last remaining big-screen movie stars. It’s just a different breed of man. And frankly, I don’t think you can describe exactly what that is because it’s like describing starshine.”
The source concluded by stating, “Furthermore, Brad has completely monopolized his relationship with David Fincher such that Leo has no chance to work with the guy. It’s disturbing how possessive of David Brad is, and it would kill Brad to see David make a movie with Leo. He’s not going to let that happen, period.”
The two actors haven’t outright admitted that a feud exists between them, but one can easily read between the (script) lines.
