The Monaco Grand Prix is known for its occasional bizarre moments, but this weekend’s incident involving a boat in the port of Monte Carlo tops them all.
Images of Monaco harbour with yachts worth millions are an iconic part of the Monaco Grand Prix, with many of the world’s rich people mooring in Monte Carlo for the weekend.
Many of the F1 drivers even come sailing towards the track in boats, as if one mode of luxury transport is not enough.
But whilst most of the action was unfolding on the track, an empty boat appeared to malfunction and go flying into a stationary yacht and a small dinghy in the harbour. The berserk boat only just missed onlookers who were walking on a nearby jetty and managed to spot it just in time to avoid being hit.
A video of the incident has since gone viral and taken away attention from all the action on the track. Probably because this bizarre crash could very easily be the most expensive one of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Fans confirmed on social media that nobody was hurt in the boat crash with the party atmosphere sure to continue.
As things stand in the race for the Drivers World Championship, Max Verstappen is still out in front but Charles Leclerc has a good opportunity to close the gap with his win.
Leclerc held his nerve to convert pole position at his home Monaco Grand Prix into a controlled victory after a huge first-lap pile-up. A collision between the two Haas cars and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez caused a red flag and led to a race of extreme tyre management by the leaders.
Truly a weekend of action on, and off the track.
