The Southern Suburbs have been rocked by a new video showing another senseless crime taking place on Kelvin Road – right next to Kelvin Grove Sports Club in Newlands.

The video shows a couple getting into their car, while a guy in a blue sweater can be seen ambling towards them. Once the woman gets into the car, he pounces and begins to violently drag her out of the vehicle. Her male passenger tries to intervene, even throwing punches at the attacker, but the tugging continues and the companion is helpless to stop it.

A second guy rocks up, and just when it seems he is about to help the couple, it becomes clear he’s in on it, and he immediately helps himself to the contents of the poor oke’s pockets.

Eventually, they seem to get what they’re after and retreat, but not before the original attacker casually scans the contents of the car parked behind the victim.

The whole scene is shocking, but almost pedestrian in a surreal way. Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured.

Incidentally, the construction of Kelvin Grove’s new panel courts is underway.
