Get your wands and whisks ready, because Warner Bros. is putting the magic back into baking.
The Harry Potter movies meant a great deal to fans who grew up watching them, and it looks like the iconic series is still capitalisable.
Warner Bros. is bankrolling the ever-valuable name, announcing a reality TV series that will find contestants engaging in a unique wizarding duel never seen before; baking.
During Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation a few days ago, Food Network officially announced a new Harry Potter-themed competition for in the kitchen. Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking will feature “innovative pastry chefs” as they “craft spellbinding sweet creations” inspired by the beloved fantasy films.
Warner Bros. is clearly seeing dollar signs in nostalgia, as the studio has also a scripted Harry Potter TV series in the works that aims to provide a new, more faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter novels. And you thought she was cancelled.
The baking series “will celebrate the global phenomenon like never before, through elevated and innovative cake creations,” according to a press release obtained by PEOPLE.
In a statement, Kathleen Finch, the Chairman and CEO of US Networks, said, “Holidays are always big at Food Network, and with over 60 hours of holiday programming coming in 2024, and with Harry Potter’s global legions of fans, Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking is certain to entertain and delight the 60M P2+ viewers who come to celebrate the season.”
The competition series will be shot at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Watford, England, where the Harry Potter saga was filmed.
Competing bakers will be given access to the actual film sets, including The Great Hall at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Platform 9¾, as well as Gringotts Wizarding Bank and The Burrow.
Each week, competitors will create food items inspired by moments and themes from the wizarding world.
Ah, nostalgia never smelled so sweet:
Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking will air later this year on Food Network.
