Two of three employees driving a bread truck were killed during an armed robbery in Delft, Cape Town, last Thursday.

Harrowing dashcam footage shared on social media shows the moment the one man appears to have taken his last breath right after he and his two colleagues were casually talking and laughing in the truck as they counted money from the sales they had made.

In a matter of mere moments, two assailants, one of them carrying a gun, appear on both sides of the truck and seem to demand cash. The Citizen notes that the two criminals took the money from the three victims and a cell phone from one of them, straight after the robber with the gun fired four shots at them.

It is believed the three victims were employed by Sasko. The shocking incident has raised the alarm about the safety of workers in the industry.

The Western Cape police (Saps) confirmed that the three employees, whose identities have not been released, were driving a bread truck in Delft on the corner of Delft Main Road and Symphony Way, when they were shot at, resulting in two of them losing their lives.

The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, and no suspects have been identified or arrested. According to Poole, Delft police are investigating two counts of murder.

“Delft police responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies in the vehicle they were driving,” Poole added.

The victims were declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Now everyone is worried about the safety of workers in the bread delivery industry, with many suggesting increased security measures. This could include escort vehicles and additional training, or measures where the employees travel without money in the vehicle.

That man counting his cash over and over again really didn’t do him any favours.

TV channel Moja Love has offered an R5,000 reward to anyone who can identify the assailants, while police are also asking members of the public to come forward with any information about the scene.
