News has emerged alleging that a young South African rugby player was apprehended by police after a shocking incident at a bottle store.
Herald Live revealed that the former junior Springbok went on a chaotic rampage at a Kariega bottle store, where he allegedly knocked bottles of liquor off the shelves, threw a security guard’s phone into a fridge, and stabbed a man before stripping naked.
The ordeal went on for hours and was caught on CCTV cameras, only coming to an end when the police managed to force the still-naked Griquas prop, Kudzwai Dube, into their van.
The Noordkaap Bulletin confirmed that the 24-year-old professional player of the Griqualand West Rugby Union (GWRU) was arrested on Monday, 29 April, in Kariega in the Eastern Cape for alleged violent behaviour and assault at a liquor store.
In a press release dated 1 May, Arni van Rooyen, the CEO of the GWRU, said that this incident, which occurred on 29 April in Kariega, has shocked and deeply saddened the Griqualand West Rugby community.
“As an organisation committed to upholding the values of integrity, respect, and sportsmanship, we do not condone any form of violence or aggressive behaviour, both on and off the field.”
Dube, once captain of the Blue Bulls U21 team, transitioned to Griquas in late 2021 and has since become a vital member of the squad. He also featured for the Junior Springboks in 2019.
GWRU expresses profound disappointment regarding the allegations concerning him.
“We understand the seriousness of the situation and are cooperating fully with the local authorities in their investigation.
“At this time, Dube has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities pending further investigation and legal proceedings. The union will also be conducting its own internal review to determine the appropriate course of action.
That’s another rugby player busted:

Van Rooyen has asked for privacy on behalf of Dube and his family, also confirming that GWRU remains dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all members of the community, both on and off the field.
It’s not the young prop’s first brush with violent outbursts. In a Currie Cup clash against the Griffons last year, he was sent to the sin bin in the second half after an altercation with an opposing player. According to Media24, Dube was also guilty of spitting in the face of a Griffons player.
