In a boggling scene, a Brazilian woman brazenly strolled into a bank pushing a corpse she hoped would co-sign a loan for her.

The Rio de Janeiro bank employees caught the customer, Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes, on camera, bringing Paulo Roberto Braga into the bank in the hopes of getting some cash, The Daily Beast reported.

In the wild video, Nunes is reportedly heard calling Braga her uncle as she spoke to the body and propped up his drooping head, also asking him to co-sign on a loan for approximately $3,400 (around R64,000).

You can hear Nunes saying “Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign [the loan contract]. If you don’t sign, there’s no way, because I can’t sign for you,” while thrusting a pen between his limp fingers and instructing him to hold it “hard”.

“Sign so you don’t give me any more headaches, I can’t take it anymore,” she adds.

When a bank worker tries to point out that the man’s colour looks off and he appears ‘not well’, Nunes waves off his concerns.

“He is like that. He doesn’t say anything,” Nunes says. “Uncle, do you want to go to the [hospital] again?”

Hectic:

The bank staffers ultimately called law enforcement. Police and paramedics responded to the scene and found that Nunes, who told police that she was the man’s niece, had indeed been pushing his corpse around. She was promptly arrested.

It was later determined that the decedent, identified as 68-year-old Paulo, had been dead for several hours prior to his trip to the bank.

Nunes may now face charges including fraud, embezzlement, and abuse of a corpse.

An investigation continues into the nature of Braga’s death, whether or not Ms Nunes is actually his niece, and whether anyone else related to either of them could be trying to commit bank fraud, police said.

Her lawyers are arguing that the man died after being in the bank for some time.
