World Cup captain, father, husband, and probably the most-liked person in South Africa, Siya Kolisi has earned a spot in TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2024.

Kolisi shared the news on Instagram, expressing what an honour this ‘profound responsibility’ is.

In true Siya-style, the Springbok captain also used the moment to pay homage to everyone who has ‘shaped’ him into the man he is today while thanking Time for highlighting the importance of ‘compassion and service’ in the world.

“This recognition isn’t just for me; it reflects the numerous individuals and communities who have poured into me and shaped me to be person I am and am becoming. I’m grateful to @time for highlighting the importance of compassion and service in our world. I look forward to getting my hands on the TIME100 issue when it’s released on Friday.”

Other names on the TIME100 list include Fantasia Barrino, Kylie Minogue, Greg Abbott, Elliot Page, Kelly Ripa, Jenni Hermoso, Colman Domingo, Dev Patel and more.

Palestinian journalist, Motaz Azaiza (25) is the youngest person on this year’s list while the oldest person is Joel Habener (86).

South African comedian, Trevor Noah,  also chimed in with a sweet tribute to Kolisi in honour of his latest title.

“Through his wisdom and humility, Siya has taught us what a powerful captain should be: someone who serves and inspires those he leads. And for him to lead a team in a historically white sport, to be loved and adored by fans of all races, is an immense achievement.”

Oh, how I wish we could kick all our politicians to the curb and just give this man the keys to Parliament. Rachel would make a fine first lady too.
