Update – No solar eclipse would be complete without the aliens being involved, so we are just going to leave a newly surfaced video at the bottom of the post. Make up your own mind, but we tend not to trust anyone who says “Bru…”
Tens of millions of people across Mexico, the US and Canada – inside a ribbon of land stretching 250 kilometres wide and more than 6,500 kilometres long – craned their necks in wonder as they ooh’ed and aah’ed over the much-hyped 2024 solar eclipse that came and went yesterday.
Monday’s phenomenon was rather unique as the Moon moved between the Earth and the Sun, snuffing its light in a total solar eclipse. Eskom, that you?
At first, the Moon’s outer edge seemed to just be touching the Sun. Then it devoured more and more until cheers erupted as all finally went dark – save for the silvery glow of the “corona” effect of the Sun around the Moon’s outline.

The total solar #eclipse is now sweeping across Indianapolis.
This is the first time in more than 800 years that the city is experiencing this celestial event! pic.twitter.com/jZuKx4nUAb

The astronomical event was one of the most anticipated events of the year – even bigger than a Taylor Swift concert – and saw hundreds of couples tying the knot, hippies swinging crystals, and likely sent large numbers of Doomsday preppers scurrying underground.
Naturally, some people saw the event as a religious sign, with some even believing the eclipse was a sign of Jesus coming back.
Others went the Astrology route and foretold of an ‘extremely potent lunation’ with the eclipse “conjuncting your vertex by one degree in your 7th house”. Some poor souls even claimed the “19° Aries sun has been screaming for the past few days” in anticipation of the event. Shame, we hope the eclipse brought some relief to their retrograde Uranus.

For those who missed the spectacle, there is always the next total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, over Greenland, Iceland, and Spain. South Africans will have to wait until 30 November 2030 for the skies to turn dark over Mzansi, Botswana, Namibia, and Lesotho.
That gives us ample time to align our vertex and get our 7th house in order.
