New York-based pop-rock sensation, American Authors, are set to make a triumphant return to South Africa this Easter with electrifying performances scheduled for Cape Town and Johannesburg.
American Authors first toured South Africa back in 2015 and are excited to return this March thanks to Breakout Events, with a sneaky performance at Splashy Fen festival in KZN, too.
They’re set to jam on Wednesday, 27 March 2024 at the Barnyard Theatre in Tygervalley, Cape Town and then on Thursday, 28 March 2024, at The Copper Bar in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
Lead vocalist and guitarist of American Authors, Zac Barnett, is buzzing to get back to our country, saying that their last trip to South Africa was a life-changing experience; “From surfing Muizenberg, to swimming with sharks, to creating new friendships and playing incredible shows for wonderful people,” he said. “For this trip, it’s only natural we go even bigger and make more memories that last forever”.
American Authors, consisting of Zac (vocals/guitar), Dave Rublin (bass), and Matt Sanchez (drums), formed in 2006 at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After relocating to Brooklyn, the band’s breakout single ‘Best Day of My Life’ became a global phenomenon, featured in over 600 movie trailers, TV shows, and commercials, even becoming the theme song for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Following the success of their chart-topping debut album, Oh, What a Life, the band has achieved numerous milestones, including multi-platinum singles, awards show appearances, and global tours with renowned artists.
The band’s impressive journey also includes gold and triple-platinum certifications, billion-stream milestones, and top-charting hits like ‘Go Big or Go Home’. Their latest endeavours include the critically acclaimed album Seasons (2019) and the Counting Down EP, released during the 2020 pandemic. 2021 and 2022 showcased American Authors in notable collaborations and unique cover renditions, leading up to their highly anticipated new album, which was released in February 2023.
Zac expresses the band’s unwavering commitment to their musical evolution, stating, “We’ve never been afraid to explore new musical genres but we always try to maintain a message of hope in our music.”
You don’t want to miss this opportunity to witness American Authors’ energetic and genre-defying performances in the Mother City, Jozi, and KZN. Find all the details further down.
To get you amped, we had a little chat with Zac, who ended up revealing that South Africans would be among some of the first fans to hear their latest songs from the album Call Your Mother, dropping while they’ll be in SA on March 29. Woop Woop!
