Elon Musk has something to say about everything, and this time MacKenzie Scott, Jeff Bezos’ ex, was on the receiving end of a witty X post after another user said Scott had been giving money to organisations that “deal with issues of race and/or gender.”
Musk has been vocal in criticising so-called ‘efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion’ by other billionaires, but it’s unclear why he singled out Scott in particular in the latest lash-out sesh.
The Tesla owner tweeted “Super rich ex-wives who hate their former spouse” should be listed among “Reasons that Western Civilization died.”
Not grammar-checking your tweets should also be on that list, still, this is not the first time Musk has slammed Scott over her philanthropy.
Scott said in a Medium post that she’d donated nearly $2 billion to “343 organizations supporting the voices and opportunities of people from underserved communities.” Scott’s donations that year included $275 million to Planned Parenthood.
Scott has adopted a no-strings-attached approach toward her giving which has won her plaudits from organisations who relish the autonomy she has given them.
In May 2022, Musk said he planned to vote Republican because he thought the Democratic Party had given his companies Tesla and Space X “a very cold shoulder.” Musk said he thought his companies were being sidelined partly because Scott had donated to “PACs posing as charities.”
“It’s safe to say that MacKenzie [ahem] Scott is not exactly a big fan of her ex-husband. Unfortunately, a lot of others are getting caught in the crossfire,” Musk wrote in an X post at the time.
Yes. It’s safe to say that Mackenzie [ahem] Scott is not exactly a big fan of her ex-husband.
Unfortunately, a lot of others are getting caught in the crossfire.

At least the grammar was solid in that tweet. It appears as if it’s not the giving part that Musk finds threatening to Western civilisation, but rather who you give to. Old Techno Grouch does engage in philanthropy as well and in 2021, he donated $5.7 billion in Tesla shares to the Musk Foundation, a charity he started with his brother, Kimbal, in 2002.
The foundation has donated to various causes, including renewable energy, space exploration, and artificial intelligence, according to its website. The group donated $160 million to nonprofits in 2021, including $55 million to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Bloomberg reported.
The billionaire ex-wife’s tweet has since been deleted, but Musk’s position is clear. Give, but not to progressive initiatives.
How Musk manages to flap his gums on X about everything while launching rockets, building rusting cyber trucks, running social media companies, and raising a plethora of children, is beyond a mere mortal like me. What a remarkable specimen of Western civilisation.
