There is a mysterious new erection in Wales.
According to CBS, locals have discovered a three-metre-tall object on a hill near Hay-on-Wye, which is recognised globally for its books and bookshops. Richard Haynes, a local resident, told the publication that he came upon it while running on Hay Bluff, something he does on a daily basis.
“I thought it looked a bit bizarre and might be a scientific media research thing collecting rainwater,” he told Wales Online. “But then I realised it was way too tall and strange for that.”
Haynes described the erection as at least ten feet tall and “triangular, definitely stainless steel.”
“It was hollow and I imagine pretty light,” he went on to say. “Light enough for two people to carry it up and plant it in the ground.”
A buddy who was in the same location two weeks before hadn’t noticed it either, indicating that it had only been up for a short time.

Another local, Craig Muir, told the PA News Agency that he spotted the monolith on Tuesday morning. Initially, he believed it “looked like some sort of UFO.” In a Facebook video, Muir claims to have “never seen this before.”
“I was taken aback,” he told the news outlet. “…[it] looked perfectly levelled and steady, despite the weather being windy.”
This is not the only enigmatic monolith to appear in the United Kingdom, or anywhere else in the globe.
In 2020, two monoliths briefly appeared just months apart in Colorado, California and Utah. Those objects appear similar to the one that has emerged in Wales. Many assumed those cases were some form of art installation that brought comparisons to the monolith in the movie, “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
We know very little about these monoliths at all, but at least it gets the imagination going.
