While the Hollywood elite celebrated the best of the best at the Oscar Awards this weekend, the annual Razzie Awards took the time to celebrate the kak movies and actors of the year.

As with the Oscars, there were few surprises when it came to the worst Hollywood has to offer, with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Vin Diesel once more featuring amongst the nominations.

The infamous satirical Golden Raspberry Awards dish out prizes every year before the Oscars to the worst of Tinseltown – with the winners receiving a $4,97 gold spray-painted trophy.

This year, the horror movie version of the beloved children’s classic, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood & Honey, had a clean sweep, taking home the Razzies for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Screen Couple, and Worst Remake, Sequel, or Ripoff. With reviews such as “A staggeringly inept dumpster fire” it was always a shoo-in for this award.

Jon Voight was chosen as Worst Actor for Mercy in the acting categories. At the same time, Razzie regular, Megan Fox, won both the Worst Actress and Supporting Actress for Johnny & Clyde and the cleverly titled Expend4bles, respectively. Her co-star Sylvester Stallone won Worst Supporting Actor for his work in the film too.

• Shazam! Fury of the Gods

The worst actor list included:

• Russell Crowe, The Pope’s Exorcist
• Vin Diesel, Fast X
• Chris Evans, Ghosted
• Jason Statham, Meg 2: The Trench

Worst actresses nominated:

• Ana de Armas, Ghosted
• Salma Hayek, Magic Mike’s Last Dance
• Jennifer Lopez, The Mother
• Helen Mirren, Shazam! Fury of the Gods

The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation includes 1,179 movie buffs, film critics and journalists from 49 US States, and two dozen foreign countries.  This year, the foundation was considering the possibility of setting a new precedent by awarding the Barry L. Bumstead Award to an entire studio (Walt Disney Studios) for the first time ever. The award was considered for the sheer amount of nonsense the studio managed to put out this year.

The Razzies noted that “corporate honchos had hoped to spend the entire year celebrating a century of success”, but had to contend with “failure after failure at the box office”. Ultimately the award was not presented, which is understandable considering Disney’s ownership of everything and their love of litigation.

It’s all in the spirit of good fun though, and the Razzies are a welcome counterweight to the self-aggrandising nature of Hollywood awards.

Often the Hollywood elite would even attend the Razzies to receive their award, like Sandra Bullock did when she gratefully accepted her Worst Actress Award in 2010. She did however go on to win the Oscar for Best Actress later that year.
