Shocking video footage surfaced on Friday that shows a private jet explode into flames after colliding with a car on a Florida highway, killing two people and leaving three survivors.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash after 3 PM, but could not confirm whether the two deceased were passengers in the jet or any of the unfortunate drivers it collided with.

The aeroplane, a Bombardier Challenger 604, took off from Ohio State University’s airfield in Columbus, Ohio and was due to arrive in Naples about the time of the disaster, according to Naples airfield Authority. In the audio of a call to air traffic control, a pilot requested an emergency landing after losing both engines.

“We’re clear to land, but we’re not gonna make the runway. We’ve lost both engines.”

The tower lost communication, and airport staff noticed smoke from the road only a few miles distant. According to King, fire vehicles with special foam were dispatched to the scene, and three of the five persons on board survived the crash.

Robert Katz, a 42-year-old commercial pilot and qualified flight instructor, told NBC6 that he does not believe the crash was due to maintenance. “For both engines to fail simultaneously like that means someone pushed the wrong button at the wrong time and didn’t verify what they were doing,” Katz went on to say.

The jet was operated by Hop-a-Jet Worldwide Charter based in Fort Lauderdale. The aircraft had been scheduled to fly back to Fort Lauderdale that afternoon.

The dashcam footage looks terrifying.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
