There are a very special few individuals who possess abilities that defy complete explanation by experts.
These people can achieve remarkable feats seemingly beyond the capabilities of the human body. The even more remarkable thing is that they didn’t integrate some bio-engineered limb or organ to gain these powers, but came into this world as a superhuman from scratch.
They were just born to baffle.
Scientists have managed to decipher the reasons behind some of these abilities in certain cases, but in others, they find themselves unable to provide a satisfactory explanation. Meet Natasha Demkina, a 37-year-old Russian woman who insists she possesses a kind of superhero ability – the power to see inside people’s bodies, much like Superman’s x-ray vision.
Then, there’s this 49-year-old man with the most extraordinary memory in the world. Stephen Wiltshire is able to glance at a landscape just once and flawlessly reproduce it in his art.
Capetonians might think they’re cool for plunging into the icy sea and claiming to master the Wim Hof method, but nobody compares to the real McCoy, Mr Wim Hof himself.
The Iceman, a record-breaker in swimming beneath the ice and enduring prolonged full-body contact with ice, credits his incredible feats to cold exposure and specific breathing exercises.
Last but certainly not least, there’s Daniel Browning Smith who goes by the name ‘The Rubberboy’. The 44-year-old American contortionist has earned the title of ‘the most flexible person in history’, boasting seven Guinness World Records, including the fastest time to enter a locked straitjacket. His feats include passing his entire body through an unstrung tennis racket.
In this case, scientists have identified the reason behind his abilities – he has a condition known as hypermobile Ehlers–Danlos syndrome.
Oh yes, and don’t forget that 81-year-old Vietnamese farmer who has taken insomnia to a whole new level. Ngoc Thai asserts that he hasn’t truly slept since 1962 relying on “green tea and rice wine” for his energy instead.
