Hot on the heels of Tyla’s Grammy win, another South African songstress is heading for the big time.
Singer and songwriter FILIPA wowed Portuguese audiences at the recent Festival da Canção, reaching the ‘semi-finals’. Should she win the competition, it places her in a perfect position to head to Eurovision 2024.
FILIPA, a music fan from childhood, recorded her first song when she was 12 years old. A few years later, at the age of 18, her hard work and skill led her to win a Ryan Seacrest cover song competition for her magnificent rendition of One Direction’s ‘Story of My Life’—a clear indication that her passion was on track.

This success introduced her talent to both local and international audiences, prompting her to release her debut song, ‘Chills’, on Secreast. Later, her song ‘Little White Lie’ made it to 5FM’s Top 5 and Jacaranda FM’s Top 20, paving the way for a bright future in the music industry.
The young singer began to collaborate with producers and composers from other countries, including Pam Sheyne, who collaborated on Christina Aguilera’s ‘Genie in a Bottle’.
FILIPA will be performing again on the 2nd of March at the Festival da Canção. Should the stars align and voters support her, she has the chance to compete in Eurovision by default. Go girl, GO!
