The World, the most luxurious residential yacht on Earth will be calling South Africa home for a little while soon.
As the largest privately owned residential mega yacht on the planet, it’s taking its esteemed guests on a spectacular 2024 journey to six continents and will be making a stopover here soon enough.
The Residences at Sea will be sailing into Cape Town for an extended five-day visit in February and March before sailing on to Mossel Bay and Durban.
The website states that resident owners of this private community at sea enjoy the ultimate combination of enriching travel to more than 100 ports of call a year – even going to some of the planet’s most remote and undiscovered regions – complemented by world-class amenities, state-of-the-art facilities, and anticipatory service.
Would you look at that:
The ship’s arrival in Cape Town in February follows an extraordinary expedition to Antarctica in January where the guests will trace the footsteps of famed polar explorers and enjoy numerous activities amid windswept scenery and incredible wildlife.
February will also see a two-week journey to South America including Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, and the virtually untouched volcanic islands of Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean before arriving in Cape Town.
South Africa is a favoured destination among Residents having visited on seven previous occasions. In fact, there are a few South African families who call The World home, including one who comments on what makes the ship so unique:
“We as shareholders decide and establish the ship’s annual itinerary of countries to visit well in advance, and include expeditions to remote areas.” He adds, “In my opinion, having a private apartment on The World is far better than, and less challenging than, the responsibilities associated with private ownership of one’s own super yacht.”
While in Cape Town, The World folks will have the chance to explore the Cape Winelands with exclusive visits to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, enjoy the city’s thriving art scene at the world-class Bijou and Christopher Moller Galleries, and soak in outstanding natural landscapes with a hike up Lion’s Head and a trip up Table Mountain with the esteemed historian Dr Dean Allen. They better hope the muggers aren’t out to play.
In Mossel Bay, they’ll go for a snorkel and then in Durban, they’ll get a chance to spot the ‘big five’ in the bushveld of the Phinda Game Reserve.
The World will go on to traverse Africa’s east coast, stopping along the way in Mozambique, Zanzibar and Kenya before a week spent among the white sands of the Seychelles.
That is followed by four months of exploration in Asia, stopping along the cosmopolitan cultural centres of Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong, as well as Bali and Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay.
Jee wizz, must be nice.
