The dutchess is back. Meghan Markle has reportedly been offered her ‘dream role’ in the upcoming Suits spin-off series Suits: Los Angeles.
NBC has confirmed that the series is a go, and Aaron Korsh, the creator of the original legal drama, has already written several episodes.
The new show will “feature a female lead who bears an uncanny resemblance to Meghan’s previous character Rachel.” So Rachel 2.0.
The 42-year-old left the show in 2018 when she joined the Royal Family following her marriage to Prince Harry, but with the pair fleeing Buckingham Palace in a very public ‘cutting of the umbilical chord’, NBC is likely betting on the Dutchess’ royal fame to bring in millions of viewers.
Indeed, Suits have pulled serious numbers in 2023 on streaming platforms Netflix and Peacock, which prompted the reboot. Rumour has it that Meghan’s attachment to the project is “one of the biggest TV deals” of 2024. Not only does it sound like she’ll have a starring role in the spin-off, but reports also say that she’s been offered the chance to flex her directing skills for an episode, too.
“Meghan is in a commanding position,” a senior production source said, “They want to expand a successful franchise in which she has a ready-made fan base of millions worldwide. They want her back and they are prepared to pay what it takes to get her.”
It’s definitely going to be strange seeing Meghan on a TV show again, but we have to ask if she will be able to play a believable character after the mass hysteria around her royal life over the last few years. Perhaps Meghan the actor is long gone, and now we can only see Meghan the Dutchess.
Suits: Los Angeles, if aired, will likely be the most hyped show of the year thanks to the Meghan connection. Stay tuned.
