A black metal band from Texas expressed regret for hurling a severed pig head into the audience at a recent concert. Surprisingly, they are facing criticism from certain fans, not for the shocking act itself, but for making a public apology about it.

Martyrdom played a gig at the White Swan in Houston on Friday when one of the band members made the bonehead move of bringing a severed pig’s head to the show, TMZ reported.

At a later stage, the chop head was hurled around the room, with the bold act caught on video. As you can imagine, the crowd went wild.

That is in all honesty a pretty terrifying-looking thing to have thrown in anyone’s direction. It’s unclear if the swine caused any injuries.

As a result, the boys in the band are getting tons of backlash for bringing the head. Some people made Lord of the Flies references, while others played the animal cruelty card.

Martyrdom admitted to messing up and released an apology. Shame, the okes seem seriously nice:

NBC News noted that when the band went on Instagram to remind everyone of its coming gig in Austin, some fans wanted to pick a fight about the apology.

“Bending over for cancel culture. How very black metal of you guys,” an Instagram follower wrote, while another called Martyrdom “a joke” by “apologising for offending religion or vegans.” The commenter added: “Everyone in the scene laughs at you.”

The thing is, the band has done this before, and the act of throwing pig heads is kind of a pastime of metal bands:

Witness Danh Bui, 26, told NBC News on Thursday that when Martyrdom took the stage with a cooler on Friday night, fellow concertgoers mentioned to him that it regularly throws a severed pig head into the crowd.

But Bui was totally grossed out:

“I called b—s—. I was, like, no way, no way,” Bui recalled thinking at the time. “I thought it’d be fake.”

But as Bui, an aspiring rapper, discovered, it was nauseatingly real. “People were screaming. Kids were picking it up. There was cartilage and little meat pieces on people. I did not expect it,” he said.

“For sure it was gross,” he said. “I started dry-heaving. I had to go vomit outside.”

Witness Xavier Gutierrez, 20, was horrified to see some fans bat the head around and some bite the raw meat. When wild goes feral.

Martyrdom might have spawned the odd gimmick, but it sounds like the crowd needs to say a little sorry for their extreme behaviour, too.
