“Half-Disgusting, Half-Brilliant” – ‘Ted’ Is the Internet’s New Favourite Show [Videos]

You would think our species has progressed to enjoy exclusively high-brow characters, but no, as if it's 2012 all over again, the internet cannot get enough of that blunt, R-rated teddy bear Ted.

You would think our species has progressed to enjoy exclusively high-brow characters, but no, as if it’s 2012 all over again, the internet cannot get enough of that blunt, R-rated teddy bear Ted.

The hype surrounding Peacock’s prequel series based on the original film sees the talking stuffed teddy back at his usual antics, saying whatever the hell he likes whenever he likes, watching porn, hiring sex workers, and confronting Jesus at a urinal.

In the original movie, we follow a 35-year-old Bostonian named John (Mark Wahlberg) and his longtime best friend and close confidante Ted, who is just as crass, horny, and lively.

The show, meanwhile, flashes back to Ted and John’s (Max Burkholder) teenage years, in which John is teased at school and Ted fights back. The Daily Beast notes it as the first big show of the year, calling “half-disgusting, half-brilliant—and exactly what we need right now”:

Ted was not made to win Emmys, nor is it supposed to make you think—in fact, the opposite; it is perfect for turning your brain off for the evening. It’s pure escapism. After watching Ted, I wouldn’t mind adopting a fluffy creature who calls my haters ugly and argues with my parents at the dinner table. Seems fun—like having a walking internal monologue, almost, but cuter.

Writer/director Seth MacFarlane, who also created and directed the new series, co-stars as the titular fuzzball, voicing and performing motion capture for the little guy.

The one-liners are hilarious, a part of the show that social media users have delighted in sharing to viral success.

Hectic on hectic:

It’s shocking and dare we say it…quite good:

Believe it or not, it gets wilder.

Watch Ted on Peacock or wherever you stream your shows.
