There’s nothing that makes me tear up quite like the Springboks rugby team and Siya Kolisi saying he just wants to make Saffas proud.
One second into the trailer for the highly-anticipated documentary following the Springboks during the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Chasing The Sun 2, and my lip is already jiggling with emotion – much like the now-retired Springboks number eight Duane Vermeulen speaking about hope in the snippet.
Supersport just confirmed that the new documentary series will hit South Africa’s screens in March 2024, per Planet Rugby. Chasing The Sun 2 will follow on from the hugely successful documentary series Chasing The Sun, which followed the Springboks in the build-up to and during their successful World Cup campaign in Japan in 2019.
The second-long trailer shows Vermeulen speaking about hope with snapshots of stars Jesse Kriel, Steven Kitshoff, Canan Moodie, RG Snyman, Manie Libbok, Cheslin Kolbe and Damian Willemse. Coaches Jacques Nienaber and Mzwandile Stick also appeared in the snippet, while an emotional Deon Fourie and Kwagga Smith were also featured.
Cue the feels:
🗣️ “Hope is an interesting thing.”

This is the second sneak peek into the documentary series, as Supersport released the first trailer in November last year. That one sees Siya Kolisi talking about what he loves about the Springboks and includes highlights from the 2023 tournament.

The first Chasing The Sun documentary series was a massive hit in South Africa and currently has a 9.6 rating on IMDb. The series captured the hearts of Saffas and proved to be a real tear-jerker, particularly when Erasmus broke down on camera when telling a story about Makazole Mapimpi.
Fans know what’s coming in the second instalment, with everyone getting amped and prepped as we speak:
“Goosebumps already! I can’t wait for this to be released… going to start stocking up on tissues already,” one Springboks supporter wrote on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Eish, ja. Nothing gets us going as a nation like the Springboks do.
