All The Best Moments From The 2024 Emmy Awards [Videos]

We've got Coolidge being shooed of stage, Succession's Keiran Culkin doing the most, Elton John becoming an EGOT, and two male co-stars kissing for a surprisingly long time.

After the writers’ strike and the actors’ strike came to a resolution late last year, Hollywood is back in action.

That means that this year, the Golden Globes and the 75th Annual Emmy Awards have weirdly been shown back-to-back instead of split up by a couple of months. The Emmys are traditionally held in September, but they were postponed due to the strikes and landed during Hollywood’s traditional awards season.

It seems contested then whether that means the latest Emmys were for 2024, as Time noted it, or 2023, as People noted it.

Anyway, Anthony Anderson (from black-ish) emceed this year’s show – likely feeling the pressure not to make any shameful jokes as Golden Globes emcee Jo Koy did. He stuck to musicals and recruited his mother Doris Bowman for the very special (sometimes hilarious, sometimes annoying) role of time “enforcer,” which saw her nudge at least one winner (sorry, Jennifer Coolidge!) off stage when an acceptance speech ran long.

People has the full list of winners if you want to check that out – Succession, The Bear, and Beef were the top stars of the night.

Perennial Emmy’s favourite Succession took top drama series honours for its fourth and final season and rounded out its six awards of the night with acting accolades for stars Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen.

The Bear also snapped up six statuettes, topping the comedy category and garnering performance awards for stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Beef continued its awards season domination when it was named the year’s best limited or anthology series, and actors Ali Wong and Steven Yeun both made their way to the podium to collect Emmys for their work.

Then, music legend Elton John also won his first-ever Emmy Award and is officially an EGOT honoree.

Time went ahead and recounted “the good, bad, absolutely hilarious and hilariously awkward moments” from the night, which we’ve used to select some sterling moments not to be missed.

For its ‘Most Divisive New Time-Keeping Method’, emcee Anderson’s mom was acknowledged for keeping the 27 award speeches tight. That, however, left Jennifer Coolidge in the lurch after winning for her performance in The White Lotus. At least she got to “thank all the evil gays” for making her an icon:

For ‘Most Creative Use of Time’, John Oliver was acknowledged for forcing Anderson’s mom to play him off the stage by listing every member of Liverpool’s soccer team and their positions. Finally, Bowman stood up and cut him off with one disappointed word: “Baby”, to which he quickly thanked Jesus and his family, as instructed, and took off:

Speaking of Oliver, Trevor Noah was named a winner – woop woop – with his The Daily Show being honoured with an Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series, and thanked Oliver for not being in their category to ensure that could have happened:

For ‘Most Honest Appreciation’, Niecy Nash-Betts accepted her award for her performance in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and thanked so many people, but then paused and said, “You know who I want to thank? I want to thank me.”

Paul Walter Hauser, who won for his performance on the Apple TV+ thriller Black Bird, had the ‘Most Surprising Speech’ for chewing while reading it straight off his phone, rhyming so that it sounded like spoken word poetry:

A reminder that celebs also get nervous, folks.

The ‘Best Format Change’ was thanks to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler sitting behind a desk to present the award for Variety Special and reviving their roles as hosts of Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live.

The ‘Most Fitting Victory’ was given to Keiran Culkin, in a triumph worthy of Succession, as he beat out both his on-screen father (Brian Cox) and his eldest brother (Jeremy Strong) for Best Actor in a Drama, a feat his character could only have dreamed of. He also got ‘Best Use of a Spotlight’ since he reminded his wife that she said if he won, she would consider having more children, and well, he won:

That wasn’t all from Culkin, who started a tiny feud with Pedro Pascal during the Golden Globes. When Pascal came to announce an award at the Emmys, he used his moment to (jokingly) blow it up:

To wrap up, when the cast and crew of The Bear came to collect their final award of the evening, real-life chef and supporting actor Matty Matheson took the mic and was halfway through giving a shout-out to the beauty of the restaurant industry when Ebon Moss-Bachrach walked up and kissed him full on the mouth for a surprisingly long time.

That’s all for now, folks. See you at the next award show round-up.
