If you have even a slight interest in fashion, odds are that your feed is filled with influencers trying to convince you what is in and what is not.
But those with a love of clothes have begun to notice an unknown silver-haired woman in a seemingly endless stream of impeccable outfits appearing in their feeds.
Who is the fashionable lady with the grey bob and unusual outfits who enjoys front-row seats at fashion week?
Her name is Grece Ghanem and she is a 59-year-old microbiologist-turned-fashion-influencer with 1.5 million followers on Instagram.
Ghanem received her master’s degree in microbiology in Lebanon, where she began her career as a hospital lab technician. Ghanem and her daughter, Cheyenne, moved to Montreal in 2005, where she began working as a personal trainer.
Ghanem joined Instagram in 2015, not really setting out to become an influencer, but encouraged by her daughter, who’d let her browse street-style photos on her Instagram account, Ghanem began posting photos of her outfits for fun.
“It began as a hobby — we would always take ‘fashion’ photos while we were traveling,” she told British Vogue in 2021. “We decided that if we were going to share the photos she took of me, we would do it in a curated way and with purpose.”

It wasn’t until 2017 that she was featured in a Vice article titled “We Meet an Instagram Model Who Started in Her 50s.” The Vice article was followed by an appearance in the fashion blog Advanced Style, after which the microbiologist-turned-influencer began amassing a following with her alternative outlook on how ‘older’ women dress.
“I strongly believe that women should remain visible no matter their age and have the freedom to dress as they please.”
Ghanem signed with Storm Model Management in 2020, and since then has worked with brands like By Terry, Missoma, Club Monaco, and Mango.
She became a fixture of the fashion scene, but it wasn’t until she began appearing on Instagram feeds that her popularity skyrocketed.

With more designers embracing ‘age-inclusive’ designs, you can expect to see more of this grandmom in the future.
