All those nutty okes walking around with signs saying ‘The End Is Nigh’ might be right. If there ever was an omen that the world is coming to an end it must surely be a nacho cheese-flavoured liquor that “smells and tastes like the real thing”.
Doritos have poked a stick into the eyes of the gods by producing an R1,200 bottle of liquor that is the alcoholic version of farts – Empirical x Doritos Nacho Cheese Spirit.
The brand revealed a collaboration with flavour innovator company Empirical: a nacho cheese spirit. Without a typical liquor base like vodka or gin, it’s described in the release as “uncategorised.” More like blasphemy.
To truly capture the essence of the iconic chip brand, layers of Doritos nacho cheese were “extracted” using real chips through “vacuum distillation,” which helps preserve the original flavour. Customers can now snag a bottle of the spirit online, or pre-order starting today on doritos.x.empirical.co.
This isn’t the first time a food brand has messed around with cheese products. In 2021, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese partnered with Brooklyn-based ice cream parlour Van Leeuwen to release a limited-edition pint of mac & cheese-flavoured ice cream. It was made using actual powdered cheese from their macaroni boxes.Look, I’ve drunk warm beer out of an old leather shoe, and once licked tequila off a dirty bar counter in New Orleans, but a nacho cheese-flavoured alcoholic spirit is a line I will not cross.
Perhaps Hunter S. Thompson said it best: “Most people can cope with the sight of their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her teeth, but nobody should be asked to handle this trip”.
Sies man.
