If your family get-togethers are anything like mine, “Great to see you!” rapidly descends into “I’ll set fire to your car!” So when a game comes along that ‘diffuses arguments and promotes togetherness,’ we’re most definitely ordering one for Christmas.
Tenets was developed and produced right here in Cape Town and use ideas and beliefs as a way to self-reflect, while also getting to know those around you better.
Its enlightenment made fun, and the debates and discussions that flow allow players to really understand each other on a deeper level.
In Latin, tenet means “to hold’ and the game focuses on your point of view, philosophy, principles, or doctrines that you hold to be true. In the game, this is expressed as a wide range of quotes, sayings, lines from movies, songs or books. By selecting the tenets that best resonate with your values and beliefs, the game encourages playful yet meaningful discussions between players. See each other’s perspective on life by the ‘tenets’ they choose – in a fun and interactive way.
The first edition also includes the Tenets Maximus Special Edition with 125 ‘Maximus-Sized Cards,’ as well as 10 blank cards that you can customize with your very own tenets.
The game sparks some lively debate, but it leaves you with a deeper understanding of those around you and the happy feeling that comes with having been understood. You can read more about Tenets on their website, which also has a helpful video by the Kalk Bay theatre team explaining the rules, which is a great way to learn.
Give your family, and yourself, the gift of peace and harmony this Christmas – that’s what the holidays are for.
