The 2024 edition of South Africa’s classiest horse race is around the corner, which means you’re going to want to jump on those tickets as soon as possible.
Make sure to join the 163rd running of the L’Ormarins King’s Plate on Saturday, January 6, for what is anticipated to be a thrilling day of top-class horse racing set in the picturesque and freshly updated Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse.
This historical race has run since 1861, when Queen Victoria donated a Silver plate and 500 Sovereigns to the winner. The change of monarchy of the United Kingdom in 2023 also resulted in the name change of South Africa’s premier horse racing event, turning the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate into the L’Ormarins King’s Plate.
Now, the L’Ormarins King’s Plate promises to dish out the glamour with exhilarating racing, great fashion and fine wines as guests bask in the second year under the new event name.
Everyone is excited to see who will be crowned as Champion for the 163rd running of L’Ormarins King’s Plate:
While the horses do their thing, the idea is to come dressed in your most stylish and elegant Blue and White outfits and stand a chance to win incredible prizes from event sponsors in the Best Dressed Competitions. All persons in attendance on-course on Saturday, 6th of January, are invited to dress up to be considered an entrant. Visit the website to see how you can better your chances of being selected by the on-course judges.
Sponsors Anthonij Rupert Wyne of L’Ormarins will be celebrating in the Blue and White festivities by keeping guests refreshed with their array of Cap Classiques and other wines on offer.
“Race-goers can look forward to watching the races from along the rails and enjoy the day’s key events, whilst sipping on refreshments from sponsors @anthonijrupertwyne and being surrounded by the spirit of L’Ormarins and other popular sponsors such as @cartier,” reads L’Ormarins King’s Plate on Instagram.

Make sure you stay to enjoy some magical sundowners under the stars at the #LKP afterparty, too. The L’Ormarins King’s Plate will provide an incredible, scintillating afterparty on Saturday, which is open to everyone who has purchased a ticket to the day’s festivities.
