One of the mermaids that have been entertaining shoppers at the Cresta Mall aquarium in Randburg, Johannesburg got herself into some trouble when her tail got stuck on some rocks, almost drowning her in full view of onlookers.

Fortunately, Nokukhanya the Mermaid managed to shed her fins and swim to the surface before the whole incident turned tragic.

A viewer who was close to the tank managed to capture a video of the moment when the mermaid went from tranquil to terrified as she struggled to get the constricting tail off and swim up for air.

Nokukhanya later commented on the viral video, saying “Every Professional Mermaid has to know how to eject out of their tails in case of an emergency.”
