Robbers are getting more and more brazen by the day it seems after a Gauteng man was accosted inside a bank before being dragged outside and robbed.
Police confirmed the man was inside an ABSA branch in Tswane to deposit money when the armed robbers approached. They ‘escorted’ the man outside and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing in a silver grey Polo.
Gauteng provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said: “It is reported that on the morning of November 23, the victim was inside the bank to deposit money when two unknown men approached him at gunpoint and threatened him.”
“He was reportedly escorted outside by the suspects who then robbed him before fleeing the scene with a silver grey (Volkswagen) Polo vehicle.”
Anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee also picked up on the ridiculous robbery and wrote on X that the robbery happened inside Absa Bank along Van der Hoff Road in Hercules.
Robbery inside ABSA, van der Hoff Road, Hercules, Pretoria earlier today. Large sum of cash taken. A businessman was about to deposit the cash.

To illustrate why this seemingly ‘standard’ robbery is so problematic, Limpopo SAPS made the following statement after a similar case earlier this year:
“The provincial commissioner of South African Police Services in Limpopo, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe once more cautioned members of the community to refrain from being in possession of large amounts of cash.”
Consider for a moment how ridiculous a situation it is when you are no longer safe handling money inside a bank. Never mind the gauntlet of criminals you have to run through just to get to the bank, once inside, you’re still not safe with cash.
Where’s SAPS? Where was security?
At this rate, we’ll be hearing of people getting attacked inside police stations in no time.
