The confused moment a hard-working border collie attempted to herd a giant sheep statue after thinking it was part of her flock is enthralling the internet.
The two-year-old sheepdog in training, named Daisy, was on a walk with owner Paul Flynn when she spotted the 7-metre light-up sculpture, which had been installed as part of Durham’s Lumiere light festival, Metro reported.
She started barking at the fake sheep before deciding it needed to be rounded up and taken home.
Paul said that Daisy is a really fun dog who always has a little bit of a play when she can. He said that because she’s a sheepdog in training, “she’s still not there yet”, but he decided to play along and told her to go up to the giant sheep for a laugh.
“She sorta run past it and I could see she was a bit worried about it and I wanted her to get over that and realise it was something that’s plastic.”
“She then had a go at herding it which was kinda funny so I encouraged it further.”
Have a laugh:
The pair were on their way to East Durham College’s Houghall campus when Daisy tried to round up the sheep – which is where Paul works as director of commercial farming.
On their way back, Daisy decided to give the herding business one more try. Now she seems to have made a new friend if anything:
Paul said: “We came back that night and there was a really good crowd of people around the sheep, because it was lit up. So I let her go and say hi to the sheep and give it a good barking at, but this time she was on the lead.
“There was people there, including young children and families, so I let her say hello to it. But someone did say turn around and say it’s made their day because they saw a Collie barking at the sheep.”
Paul says she’s a friendly doggy “always looking for that chance to say hello to people and make new friends.”
What a good girl.
