The best restaurant in South Africa has been announced, according to Restaurant Week South Africa.
The Week for foodies is held every year during autumn and spring, where customers get to enjoy a three-course dinner or two-course lunch at far more affordable prices at some of South Africa’s best restaurants.
This year, the Spring session of Restaurant Week took place from 29 September to 5 November – I know, just missed it!
Participating restaurants, which are not affordable to dine at under normal circumstances, developed a special menu for diners to enjoy at discounted rates during this time.
In exchange, diners were expected to rate their experience to reach a vote for the top restaurants – something done by those who enjoy eating out rather than a panel of judges.
After more than 25,000 diners enjoying specially curated menus at 140 of the country’s best restaurants nationwide, the winner has been announced.
Durbanville Hills’ The Tangram Restaurant has been voted the Best Restaurant in South Africa by Restaurant Week. The restaurant received the highest overall rating of 10 out of 10 on average for service, cuisine and ambience.
In a statement via The Citizen, The Tangram General Manager, Dirk Steyn, said that this is a real honour:
“The hospitality industry is tough and very competitive. Consumers demand quality, creativity, exceptional service and unique experiences. Dining out is such a social and emotive engagement, and consumers have extremely high expectations.”
He said that since they pride themselves in delivering beyond expectations, the team is overjoyed by the announcement.
Some of the other regional winners of Restaurant Week South Africa include:
