The weather in the north of the country is going berserk right now.
On Monday evening, parts of Johannesburg, especially Midrand and other northern areas of the city, were ravaged by an extreme hailstorm while a tornado threatened residents in Standerton in Mpumalanga yesterday, too.
While Alexandra reportedly had its fair share of destructive weather, the unexpected hailstorm tore Midrand apart leaving properties and vehicles damaged by hail measuring the size of golf balls.
A few roads were blocked by hail and debris from the destruction, causing trouble for locals trying to get around.

Per SA People, Tendai Bruce Mubayiwa, who was a victim of the hailstorm said this was “one of the worst I have experienced”:
“For a minute I feared hail would blast through the roofing tiles. It was loud and terrifying. This was a scary experience. Unfortunately, one of my neighbours was stuck in traffic during the hailstorm. He is fine but his car has some broken windows”.
Thankfully no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported, however, more than 1,000 vehicles became casualties of the freak hailstorm.
On the heels of this disaster, residents of Standerton in Mpumalanga noticed a violent rotating column of air on an open veld next to Tutuka Power Station yesterday.

The tornado did not come close to the nearby residential sites, however, many feared it would strike the power station which would have left them without power for days. It also would have meant putting their hopes in Eskom to fix the damage for them.
At the moment, Mpumalanga is experiencing partly cloudy with cool conditions across the province, according to the latest weather forecast by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
The town has just been battered by a heavy storm which left it flooded, especially between Standerton and Bethal, so they don’t need another disaster to deal with.
