Hustlers be hustling.
While Handre Pollard and Cheslin Kolbe are known to make the most moola from playing rugby, if their salaries are anything to go by, the others can only be following close behind.
Yet, even the winning champs of the Rugby World Cup 2023 hustle off the field to bring in some extra dough.
As two of the top 10 highest-paid players at this year’s Rugby World Cup, Pollard, who is said to have earned R14.4 million and Kolbe, who took home R21.3 million, are excluded from the conversation of side hustles, because, well, they’re already making bank.
Meanwhile, Springbok players like Eben Etzebeth, Faf de Klerk, Damian Willemse, and Ox Nche are cashing in through other initiatives and businesses on the side. If you’ve got the face, the name, and an SA flag speedo, why not?
The South African listed all the ways the Boks make their money off the field, starting with our favourite scrummagers, Ox Nche.
Besides having a degree in Geography and Statistics which he is hoping to put it to good use, Ox also runs his own clothing collection called Ox Kraal.
What a beast.
Eben Etzebeth dabbles in cameo appearances and personalised messages to the public. The Sharks player is also the co-owner of the sports supplement NutrE4.
If the stuff can make you as huge as Elizabedi, then ja, gooi it.
For something else that can make you lekker dik, Steven Kitshoff and Malcolm Marx developed some ‘Bomb Squad’ beer.
As a nod to their Boks membership, the rugby union players launched the boozy beverage just weeks before the kick-off of the Rugby World Cup:
Looks like it’s doing well and pulling in the dough for the loosehead prop and hooker.
Then, because they absolutely can, Damian Willemse and Faf de Klerk use their sterling statuses to leverage endorsements.
Faf is a brand ambassador for Budget Insurance and iPRO, a healthy hydration brand:
While Damian makes a name for Gillette, Nivea For Men, Future Life, and Adidas:
Last but not least, Trevor Nykane has a gin brand going with The Noblex. The Bok star developed his Nyakane gin as a “lockdown hobby” and it’s been rapidly becoming a great passion point for the world-class prop.
He jokingly said on his Instagram account: “To those who think it might give you some moves, LOL, maybe after a few glasses.”
We can only sip and hope for the best.
Otherwise, the okes who play for local clubs like the Sharks, Stormers, and Bulls will return to work soon after resting in their mandatory three-week break.
If their rugby professions dwindle, at least the boys have good backups.
