It’s both sad and infuriating to have to read, and report, on all the violent crime that’s become a daily reality in Cape Town, and South Africa for that matter.
This time one of Cape Town’s musicians was the victim of an armed robbery when he was robbed at gunpoint in Thornton on Tuesday.
Local muso, Craig Lucas, reported on Instagram that he had a flat tire and was waiting for help when a car drew up with what appeared to be more than one person in it.
One of the robbers wanted to shoot Lucas after grabbing his phone but decided against it after he begged for his life.
Lucas went on to explain that ‘after the robbers left, they used his phone to change the passwords of his email and Apple ID accounts, which he is in the process of changing, and warns that if he contacts them asking for anything in the coming days, they should assume it isn’t him’.

This must have been a terrible ordeal and we’re glad he survived the attack.
It’s chilling to think that the robbers casually mentioned shooting him after already taking his stuff. Is life in South Africa really worth less than a cellphone and a few rands?
If our Transport Minister is not even safe with the government’s R3.8 billion-a-year VIP protection, what chance do we have? If anything, look for an increase in VIP spending next year. As for you and me, we’re on our own.
