Bless Tyrone Ping’s heart for catching two Cape cobras in one day, it didn’t look easy.
October to April is snake season, as the temperatures get nice and hot, the snakes come out to play. To kick off this snake season, South African herpetologist, Tyrone Ping was called over to remove some fork-tongued friends.
He posted a video on his TikTok account showing him wrestling with the slippery fellas at Airport Industria in Cape Town, commenting that it was “One of the most insane snake removals I’ve done in a very long time.”
The Cape cobra, or yellow cobra, is regarded as one of the most dangerous species of cobra in Africa thanks to its potent venom and frequent occurrence around houses, IOL notes.
Although things didn’t go as planned for Ping, who can be seen attempting to remove the snakes from a shed between a fence and a gate, he managed in the end without any harm done.
He managed to successfully catch both snakes, putting one in a transparent bucket and another in a cylinder. The commentary from the group of people looking on is hilarious:
@reptilesofsouthafrica One of the most insane snake removals I’ve done in a very long time. Not one but TWO BIG Cape Cobras…things don’t quite go as planned! #snakes #animalsoftiktok #capetown #southafrica #dangerous #herping #herpsza Please check out the full GOPRO VIDEO #linkinBio ♬ original sound – Tyrone Ping
Nobody was going to hold that door open for him, shame.
The veldskoen were definitely an appropriate choice. Someone named Ron commented on the video: “Really, he’s removing snakes but he’s wearing veldskoen.😏” To which Ping responded: “Standard issue tools 😂.”
Ping also posted a longer video on YouTube, capturing the scene from his point of view with a GoPro along with his reflective commentary about the catch. You also see the scared snakes scuttling off into the bushes after being released. Have a watch:
Sjoe, ja, good to have Ping on the scene.
