Considering all the new releases coming out in the next few months, there is something for absolutely everyone.
A David Fincher thriller? You name it. A Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke mystery? Yep. A prequel to The Hunger Games? Absolutely. Bradley Cooper transforming into a Maestro? Mmm-hmm. A drama about the life and career of Enzo Ferrari played by Adam Driver? Vroom vroom, mofos. This list has it all.
With so many entertainment options at our fingertips, it’s hard to keep track of what’s coming out and when, but this list compiled mostly by PureWOW is a foolproof way to ensure you are sufficiently entertained all the way to the end of the year.
Let’s get into it, starting with that Fincher thriller – he’s the guy who was behind Fight Club and Gone Girl so you know this new one is about to be real good. To make it even more intriguing, The Killer stars Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton.
Fassbender portrays a methodical killer who lurks in the shadows waiting for his next victim. His impatience proves to be a problem because the longer it takes, the more paranoid he becomes. Before long, he’s questioning his own sanity.
You can watch The Killer in select theatres and on Netflix from November 10. Trailer time:
Then we have Leave the World Behind, a psychological thriller written and directed by Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot).
This is a story inspired by the 2020 novel by Rumaan Alam, following a Manhattan couple (Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke) who rent an Airbnb in Long Island for a staycation when the owner pitches up to announce a mysterious blackout affecting the entire Eastern seaboard. With no cell service or power, they must figure out who they can trust.
Leave the World Behind will be on Netflix from December 8.
Next up is the prequel to The Hunger Games franchise, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The film follows a young Coriolanus Snow, long before he became the President of Panem. Although the role is played by Donald Sutherland in the original movies, Tom Blyth is set to portray the younger version of the character.
Watch The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in theatres on November 17.
Bradley Cooper became nearly unrecognisable as Broadway composer Leonard Bernstein in Maestro, which he also happened to direct. Similar to A Star Is Born, Cooper goes all out in this biographical drama that offers a rare glimpse into the conductor’s life and career.
Maestro will be in select theatres from November 22 and on Netflix on December 20.
Ferrari fans gather around. You’re going to want to check out this upcoming biopic, Ferrari. The film dramatises the life and career of Enzo Ferrari (played by Adam Driver) and how he changed the sports car industry for the better. In addition to Driver, Ferrari also stars Shailene Woodley, Penélope Cruz, Jack O’Connell and Patrick Dempsey.
Watch this film in theatres on Christmas Day, December 25.
Although The Color Purple is a remake, it allows viewers to see the classic story retold in an entirely new way. Based on the novel by Alice Walker, the story takes place in the South during the early 1900s and follows an African-American woman as she navigates racial discrimination. The talented ensemble cast includes Halle Bailey, Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Corey Hawkins, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo and R&B singer H.E.R., while Oprah Winfrey also serves as an executive producer.
The Color Purple will also be out in theatres on Christmas Day, December 25.
For the romantics in the audience, this rom-com starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney is for you. Anyone But You is about a single man and woman who have an amazing first date that soon falls flat. When they cross paths at a destination wedding, they decide to have fun with it by pretending to be a couple. Will Gluck (Friends with Benefits, Easy A) directed it and Sweeney and Powell’s on-screen chemistry looks riveting:
Anyone But You will be in theatres on December 22.
That’s it. But you know it isn’t. There’s always more.
