Our reasoning is, why not make those drinks the colour green to show the ultimate support? Let’s go beyond the little springbokkie shots, with their sweet crème de menthe and Amarula, to show the Bokke just how much we care.
With these green cocktails, the colour will be prideful, while the flavour will satisfy by being either fruity, minty or an herbal blend, depending on the recipe.
One of the easiest ways to create a ‘Go Bokke’ cocktail is to use green-coloured liquors, like sour apple schnapps or the more intense absinthe, per The Spruce Eats.
Midori Melon Liqueur is the most popular melon-flavoured green liqueur, while Sour Apple Schnapps are fun but typically very sour and sweet. Check out this Apple Martini recipe, for example. Otherwise, you can also try adding some absinthe. Known as “the green fairy,” absinthe’s anise has a strong taste and a vibrant colour. For the greenest absinthe drinks, try the absinthe cocktail or obituary cocktail.
In fact, there are other options to create emerald-coloured drinks than just using green liquors as the primary ingredient.
This next approach goes back to one of the first lessons in art class: if you mix yellow and blue, you get green. This works well enough in drinks, like if you mix up a vodka cocktail with pineapple juice and just a drop of blue curaçao. Serve this green mix on the rocks and top it off with a splash of clear soda for a quick drink.
