The most balsy show on television was just added (in part) to HBO Max – even though it premiered in the UK in 2016 – and now it’s on everyone’s lips.
Naked Attraction features singles choosing a partner based solely on their slowly revealed nude body parts – which is certainly a titillating premise.
On this show, which you probably shouldn’t watch with your parents, one clothed person is faced with six naked prospective suitors hidden in neon tubes on a stage. Their bodies are revealed bit by bit from the feet up, allowing the clothed participant to make their choice about who to eliminate.
Once it’s down to just two naked bodies, the clothed person also gets into their birthday suit to strut their stuff before making their final decision. The winner is then picked to go on a date in the real world (nudity, up to them) to see if there’s an attraction beyond the physical.
The Messenger has someone’s kind reviews if you need any tempting:
“Naked Attraction on MAX is a very interesting dating show,” one supportive viewer wrote. “It shows the diversity of human bodies and teaches you about human sexuality, anatomy, and acceptance. Only puritans will be shocked. After a few episodes, it won’t shock you. We all have bodies, don’t we?”
Indeed, there are many others who are not as free-thinking, with one person calling it “grotesque” (don’t put her up for naked dating, please), and the conservative watchdog group the Parents Television Council (PTC) calling on HBO to “immediately remove this exploitative, pornographic program”.
Having not one, not two, but up to six penises and/or vulvas on screen at one time is a lot, but the show tries to be as educational as possible, The Daily Beast notes:
Naked Attraction is quiet, methodical, and deeply fascinating. Not only does host Anna Richardson walk singles through making every decision, but she also explains why contestants might have certain preferences, biologically.
The series is also inclusive of all sexualities, offering one bisexual woman a mixed array of private parts to choose from in one episode.
Once you get over the initial shock of so much full-frontal nudity, you’ll find that the show is more honest than it is naughty.
All six seasons of the show are available on Max. Don’t forget to close your curtains!
