Beyond the Light Barrier is a strange tale about the controversial South African meteorologist Elizabeth Klarer who firmly believed she had a child with her extraterrestrial lover.
Her story has now been adapted to the screen by multi-award-winning filmmaker Uga Carlini and has already won ‘Best Foreign Documentary’ in July at the Female Eye Film Festival in Toronto, Canada.
Beyond the Light Barrier tells the story of Klarer, who devoted herself to proving the existence of Akon, her extraterrestrial lover from the planet Meton in the Proxima Centauri solar system.
The film explores Klarer’s extraordinary life and is narrated by well-known actor, author, director, and playwright John Kani. Through archival footage and interviews, the film “not only celebrates Klarer’s legacy but carries an important message about the inter-connectedness of humanity and the environment”.
The film seems to have been a hit with foreign audiences, where it was an Aiaha Award finalist at the Encounters Documentary Film Festival, as well as receiving a special mention at the Al Jazeera Best Documentary Award as Best African Documentary.
The 96-minute documentary is also the world’s first part Ethereum (cryptocurrency) funded hybrid documentary feature film and is supported by the NFVF (National Film and Video Foundation) of South Africa.
Carlini is the founding owner of Towerkop Creations, a boutique film production company which also produced Alison (about Alison Botha’s ordeal and healing journey).
Judging by the trailer, this is sure to be a fascinating film.
