Klerksdorp must be the angry armpit of South Africa.
In a shocking display of public violence, Wernich Botha (pictured up top) viciously assaulted two men outside a Klerksdorp shopping centre on September 2.
It turns out Botha, 33, dealt a deadly blow to Hilton Pretorius, 32, who succumbed to severe brain injuries, passing away on September 20 in the Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital.
The 32-year-old father of two was left in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator after the brutal assault left him with a cracked skull and bleeding on the brain.
Another man, PW Roos, also fell to the ground after being punched by Botha in the Doringkruin Spar shopping centre parking lot that fateful day. Roos, who was allegedly hit after he tried to protect Pretorius, was admitted to hospital where he received stitches to the back of his head, suffered a dislocated shoulder, and had bruises and cuts due to the fall, according to News24.
The gut-wrenching incident was videoed and shared widely on social media platforms, showing one man lying on the ground bleeding profusely from the head and face.

It is reported that Botha went on this deadly rampage because of a love triangle situation between him, his girlfriend Natasha Fischer, and Pretorius. You can see a woman with red hair identified as Botha’s girlfriend running towards a blue Toyota Land Cruiser in one video.
At the time of the brutal assault, Botha was charged with attempted murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. He appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court before Pretorius’ death on September 11 where he was released on R2 000 bail.
Now, the charges related to Pretorius are supposed to be upgraded to murder at Botha’s next scheduled court appearance on 19 October, except the oke has skipped the country.
The 33-year-old, who is a maintenance manager for a private security outfit, left South Africa a few days after the death of Pretorius. He is said to have returned to work at a secure camp for foreign nationals in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Provincial NPA (National Prosecuting Authority) spokesperson Henry Mamothame told News24 that there were no restrictions attached to Botha’s movements and that the State had confirmed his employment in Somalia.
Pretorius’ family is outraged that their beloved’s attacker and murder accused has reportedly left the country for Somalia, saying that they were “misled” and “lied to” by the police who apparently said that Botha had to surrender his passport.
